Use the Mask

  • Pick a program according to your sleep needs, start 2-3 days in advance

It is critical for you to know when you should start using the mask. If you are traveling, make sure to put in your schedule at least 2 days before your flight. If you are working night shift, make sure to put in your schedule at least 3 days before the start of your night shift rotation.

  • Set up the program and follow the instructions on when to use the mask

Follow the steps to input your schedules. A list of programs on each day will be shown on the dashboard. Make sure to follow the instructions on when to use the mask.

  • Go to bed at your desired bedtime and start the mask from the app

On the day when you need to use the mask, go to bed at your normal bedtime. Right before you go to sleep, start the light program from the app by tapping "tap to start" on the light program card. Once the light program is started, you will see "running" on the card. You don't have to keep the bluetooth connection once the program starts successfully.

  • Wear the mask throughout the night

After starting the light program, put on the mask and wear it throughout the night. The light program will start during the night on its own.

  • Program gets updated every day

The algorithm automatically calculate the most updated program based on what happened on the days before. If you missed a day, don't worry. The algorithm will take that into consideration and update your upcoming program.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

Can I use the mask on the plane?

Depending on your trip schedule, you may be able to use the Lumos Mask during your flight.

Once you schedule your trip, you will see the instructions on your departure day, which contain information on when to use the mask on the plane. Because we are constantly recalculating your light programs based on updated information, your inflight program may change as you use the mask to prepare for your trip. The inflight mask program will show the time when you are supposed to use the mask.

The pre-calculated inflight program does not require internet access to start. However, if you modify your trip information when you no longer have internet access, the inflight program will not work until it has internet connection again. So make sure that you have all your flight information updated before boarding.

Do I need to maintain Bluetooth connection throughout the night?

Once you start the program from the app, you don't need to maintain the Bluetooth connection with the mask.

Simply disconnect the mask from the app after you start the program. The mask is now loaded with the program and will run on its own throughout the night.

How long is the battery supposed to last?

Depending on which program the mask runs and its frequency, the battery could last between 2-5 days.

If the battery level is too low, you may not be able to start the light program. To avoid the inconvenience of having to charge the mask when it's time to sleep, it is best to charge the mask frequently or whenever you receive the notification to charge the mask.

I can't pair my mask. What should I do?

To pair the mask, please ensure that:

  1. Your mask is charged;
  2. The Bluetooth on your phone is turned on, and
  3. The mask is within 1 feet from the app.

If you still cannot pair the mask, please go to iPhone Settings - Bluetooth and see if the mask is shown connected there.

If the mask is shown connected under iPhone Settings - Bluetooth but cannot connect in the Lumos app, please turn off Bluetooth on your phone, open the Lumos app, turn back on Bluetooth, and immediately select to connect to the mask.

The lights are too disruptive for my sleep. What should I do?

If you wake up in the middle of the night and the light program is on, it may be very hard to fall asleep. Or you just feel that the lights are too disruptive for your sleep. In this case, there are several things you can do:

1. There is a pause button on the electronic insert. By pressing the pause button once, you can pause the light program temporarily so you can fall back asleep. You can press the button through the mask cover.  Please see the above video "Pause the program" for more information.

2. If the lights are still too disruptive, you can remove the mask for the night.

3. In the morning, you can adjust the light program in the Lumos Sleep app, simply go to Mask - Light Settings. Please note that you need to connect to the mask in order to make this adjustment.  Please see the above video "Adjust the light settings" for more information.

My mask does not hold battery. What should I do?

The Lumos Mask, after fully charged, is supposed to last for 2-4 days depending on the programs run.

However, when the battery level is lower than the threshold, you cannot start the light program. To avoid this issue, we recommend you charge the mask more frequently.

If the mask is left uncharged for a long period of time, the battery capacity will be affected. To avoid this problem, please ensure the mask is not left uncharged for a long period of the time. It would be ideal if you use the mask on a daily basis, so this wouln not be a problem.

I use the mask last night but not sure if the program ran successfully.

No problem. Most of our users sleep through the lights so we get this question a lot. Let's take a look at what happened together. Please try to recall the following:

  1. When you push "test LEDs", did you see both the amber light and the white light? If you see both lights, it means that the circuit is intact. To see how to test the circuit, please see the above video  "Test the circuit".
  2. Did you start the light program in the app? If so, did you see the one flash amber light indicating the program started, and see "Lumos started" in the app? If you answer "yes" to all three, then the light program was started successfully.
  3. If you use the sunrise alarm but didn't wake up to the lights, it could be that you were sleeping too soundly to notice the light. This has happened to some of our users.

Can I change my bedtime or wake time from my existing program?

If you have set up a program and decided that you needed to go to bed at a different time, don't worry. You don't need to tell the app. Just go to bed at your new bedtime and start the mask right before going to sleep.

If you want to wake up at a different time on certain day, you can find the mask program card on that day from the dashboard, tap on the wake time, update your wake time and hit "save". For details, please see the above video "Edit wake time".

I find the mask uncomfortable to wear. Any suggestions?

No worries. The core technology of Lumos is on the hardware and the app. If you have a mask that you like, you can modify the mask by cutting out three holes to hold the Lumos electronic insert. This way you can make your own mask that works perfectly for you.
